New to Maine and newly empty nesters, clients imagined a next phase that would involve adventuring while still maintaining the pull of a welcoming family home. The home they found was located on a dramatic cliff with an intimate cove that felt pulled from a novel. They fell in love with the intensity of the water and the striking rock outcroppings. The location checked all the boxes but the well-loved home situated on the site required a gut renovation to make it uniquely their own.
Together (with the architects) we opened up the entrance, eliminating a massive brick chimney, which immediately allowed light to pour into an otherwise dim space revealing the stunning vista. Dark wood paneling and a closed kitchen were transformed into a sun-filled space that carries a strong sense of calm throughout. Space utilization and rooms that offer dual functionality was a programatic desire and fun puzzle to solve: Oak millwork optimizing storage solutions blankets the home; an integrated floating marble fireplace adds a quiet luxury to the living room but also invites additional seating for a family that loves to entertain; a lofted space doubles as a gym and bunk room. The design is warm enough to happily host family and friends without losing modern, clean design lines. The palette is thoughtfully considered to celebrate the clients art collection and capture the various moods of the site throughout the seasons of the build, specifically diving into the dynamic range of winter’s moody grays to summer's sparkly blues. Pieces were selected and crafted to celebrate the natural beauty around us from ceramic lighting evoking cascading shells to beautifully sculpted furnishings, walnut anchored in bronze, rippled drapery, shimmering silk rugs, and layers of texture.
“Molly Quesada shines like a diamond in her field.
Molly had the unique ability to bring her creative genius to our project and meld it with our own personal style to achieve all of our design goals. She understood our dreams for our home almost before we could articulate them and then tirelessly executed until every last piece was in place to our satisfaction. We have never worked with someone so committed to detail yet also so skilled at conceptualizing at a higher level.
From a managerial perspective, Molly runs her business with great integrity and operates with tight budgetary controls. We were confident that all decisions were made with our best interests in mind. Molly was always receptive to feedback and agile at incorporating our input in her proposals.
Perhaps most importantly, Molly brings joy and positivity to the worksite each and every day. We truly felt that we had a partner on our personal journey to create a space for our family to call home. We are very fortunate to have shared this process with her and still appreciate her work every day - from our first cup of coffee at the sunrise breakfast table to the close of cashmere curtains at nighttime. We couldn’t have done it without her.”
